Ayurveda - The Science of Life

Holistic, preventative approach

Ayurveda is a prevention-oriented way of living and while it believes avoiding illness is preferable to trying to cure it, Ayurveda seeks to treat such issues by targeting the root cause rather than just the symptoms.  Instead of giving illness a personality of its own and therefore offering it greater energy to take hold, Ayurveda sees it rather as an imbalance in a person’s physical or mental composition.  While Ayurveda does not eschew the marvels of modern allopathic medicine, which excels in the acute stages of disease or trauma, it rather seeks to equip the individual with the power to know their body and mind better in order to avoid reaching such extremes of disease throughout their (hopefully long, happy and healthy) life.

An ancient science empowering us today

Ayurveda – a word that literally means science of life (“ayu” means life; “veda” means science/knowledge/enlightenment) - is the natural holistic medical system originating from India, it is said some five thousand years ago.  Its practice offers both profound and practical insights into who we are and how to take care of ourselves by achieving physical and mental harmony with nature.   It does this by creating an awareness of how everything we experience, think, do or eat affects our body and mind, and provides the skills to remain balanced within ourselves, and our environment, resulting in greater health, energy and happiness.

The mother of medicine

Ayurveda is acknowledged by many scholars now as being the mother of medicine because its principles have influenced the development of Chinese, Greek, Arabic and other traditional medical systems as well as more modern therapies now like Reflexology, Acupuncture, Acupressure, Massage therapy, Aromatherapy and Naturopathy.
